Rotary In 1926, Harry Tinney, a Fairport resident who belonged to the Rochester Rotary Club, came to the conclusion that Fairport should also have a Rotary Club, and found interest from five other men. On October 22nd, an organizational meeting was held and included others who had shown interest. All who were present filled out application cards and paid the required $2 initiation fee. Thus was born, in Fairport's Sesquicentennial year, a 19-member club, the 2431st of Rotary International.

The first regularly scheduled meeting was held on November 8th, with 100% attendance and featured a presentation by Harry Tinney about disabled children and the purpose of fines. Charter Night was held on February 8, 1927, with dinner served on tables arranged in the form of a giant wheel. The 350 in attendance included Rotarians from many surrounding towns and District Governor Bill Campbell presented the new club's charter.

The Fairport Rotary Club exemplifies the Rotary motto, 'Service Above Self'.

Everything we do is based on the Object of Rotary, the Four Avenues of Service are Rotary's philosophical cornerstone and the foundation on which club activity is based.

  • Club Service focuses on strengthening fellowship and ensuring the effective functioning of the club.
  • Vocational Service encourages Rotarians to serve others through their vocations and to practice high ethical standards.
  • Community Service covers the projects and activities the club undertakes to improve life in its community.
  • International Service encompasses actions taken to expand Rotary's humanitarian reach around the globe and to promote world understanding and peace.

The Fairport Rotary Club is active in numerous local events to help assist our community members in need.
