Interact is Rotary International's service club for young people ages 14 to 18. Interact clubs are sponsored by individual Rotary clubs, which provide support and guidance, but they are self-governing and self-supporting.
Fairport Rotary Interact Club
Interact meets at the Fairport High School each Tuesday at 2:15 in room 214. Officers are elected annually in the Spring. All volunteer opportunities are chaired by Interact members. These members compose the Board of Interact which meets twice each summer to review and plan the following years activities. The club advisor is a Fairport Rotarian.
Volunteer opportunities include:
- Preparing meals at Ronald McDonald House
- Adopt A Trail - maintenance of the trail along the Erie Canal
- Sorting food for Foodlink
- Ringing the bell for Salvation Army at Christmas time
- Participating with Rotary - Make a Difference Day, Annual Christmas Party
- Community Events - Halloween Parade, Scarecrow Festival, Come Home for the Holidays, Canal Days, cans drive for Perinton Food Shelf
- Monroe County's Winterfest
- Raising Funds for Wilmont Cancer Center - Balloon Manor, A Piece of the Cure
- Focus The Nation - activities to support issues about Global Warming
Interact sponsors an annual $650 scholarship through Dollars For Scholars. Contenders must write an essay "The Role that Volunteering and School Service Has Played" in my life. Interact also sponsors two students high school fees in Malawi, Africa.
Members belong to DISC-District Interact Student Counsel - an organization of Interact Members from clubs in our Rotary District. The goal is to share success stories about membership, volunteer opportunities, fund raising and support an annual district volunteer project.
